GTIN (EAN and UPC barcode number)

The worldwide product number under a retail barcode: EAN-13 in most countries, UPC-A in North America, given out by GS1.

GTIN stands for Global Trade Item Number. It's the number printed under a product's barcode, the same in every shop that sells it. It has 13 digits (EAN-13), 12 (UPC-A), 8 on small packs (EAN-8) or 14 on cartons (GTIN-14), and the last digit is a check digit worked out from the others.

Brands get their numbers from GS1, so a product scans the same everywhere. Numbers starting with 2 are set aside for codes used only inside a business, such as weighed goods or a shop's own labels. Binhop reads barcodes with the phone's camera to find, sell, receive or count an item.
