SKU (stock keeping unit)

A code a business gives each product it stocks, one for every version (size, colour) it counts separately.

SKU stands for stock keeping unit. A barcode is printed by the manufacturer and is the same in every shop; a SKU is your own. You choose it, it can hold letters, like MUG-BLU-350 for a blue 350 ml mug, and every variant you count separately gets its own.

A good SKU is short, never reused and readable at a glance. Leave the price and the supplier out of it, since those change. In Binhop the SKU sits next to the barcode on each item, search finds it, and it can be printed on labels as a Code 128 barcode.
